Sheffield Formula Racing is a student team at the University of Sheffield that designs and builds a single-seat race car each year to compete at Silverstone in the Formula Student competition. The documentary follows the build of SFR 17, the team's most ambitious car to date.

After five years of planning and incremental component purchases, the team is transitioning from an internal combustion engine to a fully electric powertrain. The team is doing this with a starting budget of £6,000, of which £4,500 goes on the competition entry fee. They are also running a full carbon fibre monocoque alongside the electric drivetrain. Only seven teams at the previous year's competition ran that combination.

Scrutineering at Silverstone is the first obstacle. No other UK team has passed scrutineering in their first year as an electric car. Technical director Toby Smith has a side bet running: if the car finishes endurance, he gets a tattoo of it.
